Club History
BRIEF HISTORY OF BELMONT LIONS FOOTBALL AND NETBALL CLUB.
The Belmont Lions Sports Club has a proud and enduring history in the Geelong sporting community, built on teamwork, dedication, and local spirit.
Our History
The Club was originally founded in 1965 as St. Bernards Football Club, competing in the Geelong & District Football Netball League (GDFNL). In 1974, the Club changed its name to the East Belmont Football Club, continuing to represent the Belmont community with passion and pride.
A new era began in 1998 when the Club adopted its current name — Belmont Lions Sports Club — reflecting a broader sporting vision and stronger identity. Two years later, in 2000, the GDFNL introduced netball as part of the competition, and our Club enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to grow into a true multi-sport organisation.
Our Teams
Today, the Belmont Lions Sports Club proudly fields teams across both football and netball, providing opportunities for players of all ages and abilities to participate, develop, and enjoy the game.

The Club remains committed to nurturing young talent and supporting our players as they progress through the ranks, both on and off the field.
Our Home
Our home ground, Winter Reserve, is located on Glyn Street, Belmont, and has been the heart of our Club since its inception. The main oval measures 146 metres in length and 130 metres in width, complemented by a second adjoining oval of slightly smaller dimensions.
Both grounds are equipped with state-of-the-art lighting, allowing for high-quality night training and matches. In recent years, we have also completed major renovations to our changerooms and social facilities, 2nd state of the art netball court and currently under construction is our netball changerooms and storage, undertaken in partnership with the East Belmont Cricket Club, with whom we proudly share the venue.
Our Colours and Community
We wear the colours Maroon, Blue, and Gold, inspired by the Brisbane Lions in the AFL — a symbol of strength, unity, and pride.
The Belmont Lions Sports Club is more than just a sporting organisation — it’s a community hub where players, families, volunteers, and supporters come together to share a love of sport and a commitment to the values of respect, teamwork, and perseverance.
As we continue to build on our strong foundations, we remain dedicated to providing a welcoming, family-oriented environment where everyone can feel part of the Belmont Lions family.

BELMONT LIONS THEME SONG
Out we come, out we come, out we come to play
Just for recreation’s sake, to pass the time away
Lots of fun, heaps of fun, enjoy yourself today
The Belmont boys / girls are hard to beat when they come out to play.
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all
Join in the chorus, Belmont’s on the ball
Good old Belmont, they’re champions you’ll agree
Belmont will be premiers just you wait and see.
