Club History

BRIEF HISTORY OF BELMONT LIONS FOOTBALL AND NETBALL CLUB.

The Belmont Lions Sports Club was originally founded in 1965 and was known as St. Bernards Football Club, competing in the Geelong and district football league until 1973.

The Club changed its name from St Bernards to East Belmont Football Club in 1974.

Some 23 years later the club changed its name again in 1998 to become the Belmont Lions Sports Club. At the turn of the century in 2000 the Geelong and District Football League decided to add Netball to the league which was embraced by our club and also the whole league in general.

We currently field Junior Football teams ranging from under 10s to under 14s.

We field both Senior and Reserve Grade Football Teams, with one Senior Football Premiership in season 2007, our solitary Premiership to date.

We also a range of netball teams which range from under 13s,15s,17s to senior, A, B, C and D grades.

The colors we wear are: Maroon + Blue + Gold (Brisbane Lions Colors in the AFL)

Our home ground has always been called Winter Reserve which is located in Glyn Street Belmont.

Our Main Ground dimensions are: Length-146 meters & width-130 metres.

We all so have a second adjoining oval of a slightly smaller size. Both grounds have state of the art light towers for night time training sessions.

We also have recently done fresh renovations to all our change room facilities and our social rooms in conjunction with the East Belmont Cricket Club who we share the facilities with.

BELMONT LIONS THEME SONG

Out we come, out we come, out we come to play
Just for recreation’s sake, to pass the time away
Lots of fun, heaps of fun, enjoy yourself today
The Belmont boys are hard to beat when they come out to play.

So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all
Join in the chorus, Belmont’s on the ball
Good old Belmont, they’re champions you’ll agree
Belmont will be premiers just you wait and see.
