Code of Conduct

Players and officials

  • Play by the rules and the spirit of the game
  • Never argue with an official if you disagree, have your captain, coach or manager approach the official during the break or after the game
  • Control your temper – Verbal abuse of officials and sledging other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable or permitted behaviours in any sport
  • Work equally hard for yourself and/or your team.  Your team’s performance will benefit, so will you
  • Be a good sport.  Applaud all good plays whether they are made by your team or the opposition
  • Treat all participants in your sport as you like to be treated.  Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor
  • Cooperate with your coach, team-mates and opponents.  Without them, there would be no game.
  • Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit, not just to please parents and coaches
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants, regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion
  • Never consider cheating, and in particular never attempt to improve your individual performance by the use of drugs.
  • Learn to accept success and failure, victory and defeat with good grace and without excessive emotional displays
  • Remember that Social Media comments regarding team mates or opposition players or teams should always be of a positive and encouraging nature and should not include any material of a derogatory or gloating nature.

Spectators

  • Watch and enjoy the game.  Let the players play, the coaches coach and officials officiate
  • Refrain from questioning the official’s judgement or honesty.  Recognize they are symbols of fair play integrity and sportsmanship
  • Do not use foul or inappropriate language or behaviour
  • Abuse of volunteers whether verbal, in writing or in email will not be tolerated
  • Enjoy the game but drinking in excess will not be tolerated

As Members of Belmont Lions sports club we all must agree to the above rules.
